Your Quinceañera Is Coming! Here Are the First 10 Things to Do
Your Quinceañera is one of the most exciting celebrations you’ll ever plan—but figuring out where to start can feel overwhelming! From choosing your dress to finding the perfect venue, there are a lot of decisions to make.
The good news? You don’t have to figure everything out at once.
If your Quinceañera is coming up, start with these 10 important steps to stay organized, reduce stress, and make planning your big day a lot more fun.
1. Set Your Quinceañera Budget
Before you start booking venues or shopping for dresses, sit down with your parents or whoever is helping pay for your Quinceañera and decide on a budget.
Think about the major expenses, including your venue, dress, food, entertainment, photography, decorations, invitations, and other special details. Having a budget from the beginning will make the rest of your decisions much easier.
2. Create Your Guest List & Choose a Date
Start making a list of everyone you'd love to celebrate with. You don't need a final guest count yet, but having an estimate will help when you're looking at venues and calculating costs.
You'll also want to choose your preferred date—or at least the month and year you'd like to have your Quinceañera.
3. Find the Perfect Quinceañera Venue
Once you have an estimated guest count and date, start touring venues.
Ask whether your preferred date is available and make sure the space can comfortably accommodate your guests. You'll also want to ask what's included with the rental, how long you'll have the venue, and whether there are restrictions on outside vendors, catering, or decorations.
Popular dates and venues can book early, so this is one decision you don't want to leave until the last minute!
4. Start Shopping for Your Quinceañera Dress
Now for one of the most exciting parts—the dress!
Before visiting dress shops, browse online and save photos of styles and colors you love. You don't have to know exactly what you want, but having inspiration will make shopping much easier.
Most importantly, choose a dress that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable.
5. Choose Your Quinceañera Court
If you're having a court, decide who you'd like to be part of it and ask them early.
Your court may need time for fittings, rehearsals, dance practices, and other preparations. Giving everyone plenty of notice makes scheduling much easier as your celebration gets closer.
6. Decide What Your Court Will Wear
Once your court is confirmed, choose their attire and communicate the details clearly.
Consider how their outfits will coordinate with your Quinceañera dress, theme, and colors. Be sure everyone knows what they'll need to purchase, where to get it, and when they'll need it by.
7. Pick Your Theme & Colors
What do you want your Quinceañera to look and feel like?
Whether you envision an elegant princess celebration, glamorous ballroom, enchanted garden, modern chic party, or something completely unique, start gathering inspiration.
Pinterest, Instagram, past Quinceañeras, and even your venue's previous events can be great places to find ideas. There's nothing wrong with using inspiration from other celebrations and making it your own!
8. Plan the Food
Great food can be one of the most memorable parts of a celebration!
Think about what you'd like to serve and ask your venue about its catering policies. Some venues provide food or have preferred caterers, while others may allow you to bring in an outside catering company.
Don't forget to consider appetizers, dinner, desserts, drinks, and your Quinceañera cake.
9. Start Planning the Music
Think about the atmosphere you want throughout your celebration. Start creating a list of songs you definitely want played, along with any songs or styles you'd rather avoid.
When you choose your DJ or band, communicate your preferences clearly. You'll also need to plan music for important moments such as your entrance, father-daughter dance, court dances, and other traditions you're including.
10. Remember to Have Fun!
There are plenty more decisions ahead, but don't let planning take away from the excitement of your Quinceañera.
Stay organized, ask for help when you need it, and enjoy creating a celebration that represents you.
Your Quinceañera only happens once—so enjoy the journey just as much as the big day!
